It All Started With a Halloween Picnic

Miranda Schlake has always had an entrepreneurial spirit and a love for creating beautiful experiences.

When she mentioned wanting to open an event venue, a friend suggested exploring event planning first. That conversation set something unexpected in motion.

While researching different types of events, Miranda discovered beautifully styled picnics on social media. Most were happening in California, but she could picture something similar along the beaches of Southwest Florida.

She started small, gathering pieces from local stores and items she already had at home. With them, she created a fall-inspired Halloween picnic for friends.

Her friends loved the experience, and Miranda discovered how much she enjoyed planning every detail.

With encouragement and creative inspiration from her mother and a close friend, she continued experimenting with table settings, collecting new pieces, and developing her own style.That first little picnic became Siesta Summer Picnics & Events.

Miranda’s Growth as a Sarasota Event Planner

As Siesta Summer grew, so did Miranda’s experience. Her work expanded beyond intimate picnics into beachfront corporate events, larger celebrations, and gatherings involving multiple vendors.

Coordinating DJs, mobile bars, catering teams, and specialty activities introduced new opportunities. She developed relationships with local event professionals and gained practical experience managing more involved occasions.

Siesta Social Events grew from that experience. Today, Miranda offers wedding planning, corporate event coordination, private celebrations, and personalized event styling.

Through both businesses, her approach remains personal. She wants each event to reflect the people celebrating rather than repeat a design she’s created before.

A Family Story Behind the Celebrations

In the early days of Siesta Summer, Miranda’s little helpers were often right there with her.

Her son accompanied her to some of those first beach setups, tucked into a front carrier while she worked. As her family grew from one child to two, those sandy afternoons became part of their family memories.

Once the picnic was ready for clients, Miranda and her children would head farther down the beach to play and enjoy their own time together.

Today, what began as a one-woman operation has grown into a team effort. Trusted employees help manage events, while family members lend a hand with setup, cleanup, and childcare.

The events may be bigger now, but Miranda hasn’t forgotten those early days of carrying picnic baskets and a baby onto the beach. The personal attention that shaped those first celebrations remains part of how she works today.
